A PAN card is an essential document for any Indian citizen for proof of identity and more importantly for all your tax purposes. The Income Tax Department of India has made PAN card applications easier over the years with the help of the internet.

The Income Tax department has assigned the Protean eGov Technologies Limited (formerly NSDL) primarily for the application of Pan Card and Digital Signatures Online. Apart from this, UTI Infrastructure and Services Limited (UTIISL) has also been appointed by the IT Department for the application of PAN cards.

There are several agencies working on a district-level providing PAN cards for applications from accepting applications, processing them and then providing the customers with the card.

“With effect from April 08, 2012, PAN applications are required to be furnished in the new forms prescribed by ITD. Indian citizens will have to submit their ‘Application for allotment of new PAN’ in revised Form 49A only. Foreign citizens will have to submit their ‘Application for allotment of new PAN’ in newly notified Form 49AA only.”
